An Open Letter to WWU StudentsPrintable

First and foremost, Bellingham and Whatcom County residents are quite happy you've chosen to attend Western Washington University.-> We think the university offers an excellent environment for study and developing the skills necessary for a successful life. While the University should correctly be your focus, Whatcom County also offers a rich diversity of experiences beyond the campus. We'd encourage you to explore these things and, of course, consider becoming involved with the Whatcom County Soccer Referees and getting connected to the local Soccer community.

WCSRA organizes, promotes, and supports USSF and NFHS registered officials in Whatcom County in a variety of ways and we're always happy to invite the students attending the university to participate as a Soccer Referee with the programs we're involved with. We have a long tradition of hosting Referees from other parts of Washington State during their tenure at the University and have every intention of continuing this connection with the students attending college in the County.

Where are the Matches?

While some of the Middle School and High School (NFHS) and the occasional Adult/Select Matches are held at other locations, the vast majority of the games are scheduled at the Northwest Soccer Park. Here in Whatcom County, the facility represents a single physical location where you'll be able to connect with other Referees and the Assignor(s) relatively easily.

When you get your first assignment at the Park, make sure you show up a little early and find the Assignor(s) who are likely to be hanging around the Referee Room (a small room at the end of the building facing the soccer fields). It's an easy way to become familiar with the key people involved in soccer officiating here in the County. We are a relatively small Chapter of Referees, so it won't take long before you're fully in the swing of things. Just reach out a little and ... the other soccer folks in the area should greet you warmly.

How to get started with WCSRA

You'll need to establish an identity on WCSRA.ORG so you can logon and search for available Assignments, etc. You can do this in the following basic ways:

If you are NOT licensed with USSF or registered with WOA
You'll need to attend a USSF Entry Level Clinic and complete the USSF Registration process. Look at Information: Clinics for an "Entry Level Clinic". Once you find one that fits your schedule, click the register symbol and Enroll in the Clinic.

If you take the Clinic in Whatcom County, the Instructor will be able to answer how to connect with the local Assignors and help you logon at WCSRA.ORG

If you ARE already licensed with USSF
Logon at WASRC.ORG-> (Washington State Referee Committee), click to Referee: Token there and click Generate Token. Once you've done that, you'll see a list of Chapters at the bottom of the WASRC.ORG page, click WCSRA and your information will be propagated from WASRC.ORG into WCSRA.ORG (Whatcom County Soccer Referees Association).

If the Referee: Token mechanism from WASRC.ORG proves problematic for any reason, you can also directly register with WCSRA.ORG at Logon: Register

Getting Assignments

Like all Referee Chapters in Washington State, specific Assignments are managed by individual Assignors. They can be reached via Email as follows:

Adult Assignments
Contact the AdultAssignor@wcsra.org
High School (NFHS) Assignments
Contact the HighSchoolAssignor@wcsra.org
Select (Traveling team) Assignments
Contact the SelectAssignor@wcsra.org
Tournament Assignments (usually during the Summer)
Contact the TournamentAssignor@wcsra.org
Youth Recreational Assignments
Contact the YouthAssignor@wcsra.org

WCSRA.ORG also offers a SelfAssign mechanism where you can search for and assign yourself to available Assignments. This will, however, require that one of the WCSRA Assignors has observed you and set your Rankings appropriately (so you are eligible for suitable assignments).

Best way to do that? Contact the Assignor (via Email) and tell them a little about your experience, get an assignment from them that they can observe and you should get immediate feedback and Rankings set on the site for you.

Then, fit assignments into your schedule around your classes (while we want you on the pitch helping us out, don't forget....University Classes come first).

Chapter Meetings and Training

WCSRA usually meets on the second Wednesday of each month (see the Calendar on the Site) at varying locations. You're certainly welcome to attend (Membership in WCSRA is based upon simply having an interest in Whatcom County soccer officiating ... no membership fee, etc.) and participate in the Chapter discussions. We also normally offer an hour of Continuing Education towards USSF Recertification (again, watch the Calendar for where, when, and what Topic).

Finally, if you've questions that aren't answered here about the Chapter that aren't Assignment based, contact any of the Board of Directors or Officers.

Welcome!!!
